The Great Deception- Information overload!
Dear Single Mum
In the Coming Year, you will do well to manage one of the Most sensitive yet generally ignored aspect of your life: Your Time.
Wanted by all, including your self yet limited to 24 hours in a day just like all.
How you carefully manage your Time will be your ticket to managing several resources that comes your way.
Every one ,every where is constantly seeking your attention by providing information that you will need to filter quickly through 3 lenses.
1.How can I use this new information? Note that If it is an old information, why do you need to sit many hours through it when you can be learning something new elsewhere.
2.Why must I use this new information? Is it necessary for me to sit through this information?
Many years back in my teenage years,i use to attend this Pentecostal church that had a presiding Bishop who went through frequent Mission trips back then to the United States from Nigeria.Every time he came back from a trip we were required to gather in Church to celebrate his return. One time his flight touched down around 6pm and he did not make it to church till 9pm but we had been in the church singing and exhibiting all forms of perceived worship to someone who had gone on a supposed mission trip since 4pm.
There was no Bible study, no Prayer time just waiting away dancing. And mind you we were not worshipping God.We were clearly just there to welcome someone else live out his purpose.
Now that I re-collect those times I am not just upset at the wasted time and resources spent idling away but the Mindset that many of us in that generation still carries over till today. Exchanging our valuable time for mediocrity seems to be prevalent now!How can we still not understand that you eventually become what you spend your time doing.
I remember this story of a very busy Preacher who got a speeding ticket and was required to attend an information evening on speeding or paying a fine.He opted for the fine and deduced quickly that he has learnt his lessons through the whole process but will rather spend that time acquiring more information than repeating the old information that he already knows.By paying a fine he knew that he has picked up the key information that if he repeats this action again, he will be fined and the law is not joking.
He intentionally set up that evening for a new course/information and was satisfied that he has picked up new information for the fine.Whether or not he could pay the fine because it is disposable is another matter for another day.
3. When will I use this information? Do I need it now or in the future? Can this wait? Can I get it documented some where else that I can refer to it later?
There was a Conference hosted for £500 that I really wanted to attend ,I missed it eventually.I was shocked to see the same information that I was going to pay £500 for being flogged to £200 a day after the conference.
Knowing that I will eventually need the information in the next 3 months gave me incredible satisfaction and confidence that I probably did not miss much by not attending that conference.
